Description

This is a lesson about deciding what to do when we are on holiday

Materials

Abc Face2Face

Main Aims

  • Ss will develop skills needed to discuss about "deciding what to do when you are on holiday"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To introduce and to practice useful vocabulary
  • To encourage ss to make questions and give answers using "would like" and "would rather"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start this lesson displaying 3 questions on screen and I will ask to Ss what do they think about them? These questions are: What would you like to do? Where would you like to go? Would you rather to go to London or Paris?

Text work (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for target language through a text or situation

For this part of the lesson, I have taken a reading activity from the book "Face2Face". Ss have to read it and then they will have to answer 4 questions regarding to the reading.

Language Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING I will explain Ss the meaning of "would like" and "would rather", due to the importance of this when it comes to deciding what to do. I will take the information from Cambridge dictionary website. FORM i will show the structure to use "would like" and "would rather" - What would you like to do? Q. Word+ would+ subj+ v. infin...+ comple.. -I’d like to go sightseeing Subj + Would like ´+ v. infini.. + comple.. -I’d rather stay at home Subj + Would rather ´+ v. infini.. + comple.. PRONUNCIATION From Cambridge dictionary website, I will show ss the proper pronunciation, using the international pronunciation alphabet (IPA) and then, ss will drill, using the same 3 sentences to practice. -What would you like to do? -I’d like to go sightseeing -I’d rather stay at home At the same time, I will show ss the stress of the sentences to practice the pronunciation of these sentences.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will have to develop ideas about what to do in a day on holiday. Ss will have to work in peers for this activity. One of the ss will create questions and its classmate will have to answer. They both will have to consider the sentences bellow -Which place -When to go -What you can do there -How to get there After finishing, ss will swap roles.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will have to work in peers. The first student must make 2 questions related to "deciding what to do on a holiday" and its mate must answer; and vice versa. Both ss must use "would like" or "would rather" To conclude this lesson, I will: - Give an appropriate FB to my Ss - Thanks, Ss for their time
