Description
Students will practice listening comprehension by identifying past continuous, past simple, and 2nd conditional structures in incident reports.

Procedure (52-60 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
“What was the last incident you had to report?”
While-Reading/Listening #1 (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks
Audio Clip: A vet describing a stressful situation. Questions: “What was happening when the problem occurred?” “How did the vet respond?”
While-Reading/Listening #2 (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks
Gap-Fill Activity: Completing sentences with the correct tense. Example: “I was preparing the medication when the cat suddenly __.” “If I had acted quicker, I would have __.”
Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
Students discuss what they would have done differently in the same situation.
