To give practice in the use of functional language of "ready made phrases, and to use functional language to have more conversation in a shop.
Subsidiary Aims

To get the students to practice using ready made phrases when purchasing/wanting to purchase something
Procedure (45-64 minutes)
T will show a one minute funny skit of a man going shopping. Teacher will ask the students to observe the video and see if they have ever encountered this situation before while shopping, and what if anything could they have said to prevent this? Teacher will ask students how would they have asked for assistance? Teacher will then speak about her shopping experience here in Turkey and what problems she has encountered while shopping. Teacher will ask students "Do they feel the same way?" "Have they had this or something like this happen?"
Teacher will highlight four essential vocabulary words from the text (Supermarket, Bookstore, a butcher, a pharmacy) to use and elicit information from the students so that they will grasp a better meaning of the task to come. Students will write down vocabulary and sample sentences. Teacher will do a brief drilling of vocabulary.
Teacher will present to students a gist listening to listen and grasp a meaning of the activity to come alone.
Teacher will ask students to prepare for the listening for detail (receptive) to answer questions from the upcoming activit for 1-2 minutes. Teacher will ask CCQ's for clarification of the activity, " You are listening for what?" students will re-listen to the audio and then answer the questions for ex. 4. in pairs. Teacher will monitor students closely and ask early finishers to come up to the board and write their answers. Students will then check their answers in pairings and the teacher will elicit the correct answers to place on the WB.
Teacher will place on the board photo's of shoppers in different shops to assist students in the setting of the exercise to come. Teacher will elicit some answer from students to place on the white boardStudents will re-listen to the audio and then answer the questions for (exercises 4b and 10) in pairs. The teacher will pair students to work together to ask questions such as, "Can I have...?, How much is this? I'll have that one, please. Teacher will monitor students closely and ask early finishers to come up to board and write their answers. Students will then check their answers in pairings and the teacher will elicit the correct answers to place on the board
The teacher will now group off students into small groups to compare answers and discuss the listening exercise (form of politeness response based off the vocabulary and exercises 4 and 10 for 8-10 mins. The teacher will then elicit one answer from each group and place on the board formed in the question and responses of "Can you tell me where I can find?" "Give me this vs. Can I have this please" "Could you assist me vs. Hey you, come here now"How much is this?" "Do you have...?" The teacher will monitor students to identify and correct responses as available.
Teacher will set up a small set of shops where students will do "mock shopping" with each other practicing the practicing the new phrases learned from the exercises (4 and 10) on each other. Students will also utilize politeness when they are either requesting or responding to comments from each other, "I'll have please." vs. "give me now", "I would like" vs. "give it to me now". Students will also be paying and responding with fake money in the individual "shops". Teacher will allow interaction for 8-10 minutes and thank the class and release for lunch.
