Description

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to engage in common workplace conversations, including small talk, requesting help, giving feedback, and handling misunderstandings.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversations in the context of workplace

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a phrases in the context of workplace

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Open the video and show the class on Zoom what kind of lesson they will be learning. This will set the scene of what is to come with the lesson. -Show the video -Ask students what they understood

Exposure (8-11 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

This section will be to learn some common phrases that may be used in the workplace -Ask students what they already know about the topic -Ask a question about the video and how to talk to someone is an office setting -Show the video -Ask the class about when they would use that sort of language

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

In this section clarify useful language that a student may need for the presentation. -Introduce the language that may appear in the workplace -Could you clarify, I just need to double-check etc. -Once the phrases are learned the students must practice repeating them at the same time with the teacher

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this section the learners must use the phrases that they learned to practice and see if they can finish the phrases. -Give the students a chance to talk to others in the class about the phrases -Do an activity where the class must to talk to all the students and ask them at least one question using their new words -While doing this students will cross off the phrases already used on a paper

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Go over what was learned -Ask students what they learned and what they now know -Ask students what other phrases may be important to know and what sorts of things they felt need more clarification -Take the last minutes getting students to write out students two phrases that they may need use in the future
