Subsidiary Aims

  • Vocabulary: in the park, on the beach, at school
  • Grammar: I am ... | We are...

Procedure

Warm up Video (2-4 minutes) • To get students focused and ready to learn

play a dancing song while setting up the props.

Exposure (8-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Learn the places. Practice pronunciation with students especially for the word beach as most Vietnamese students say it with a short i. Add the phrases and talk about why we don't want to be in the beach for instance. Play slap the board. Teacher calls a place and students slap the space and say the fragment.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Add I am to the fragmented phrase. Play Monster Swap drill.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Play guess the picture. Have the three new words on the board. Students put their hand on one and make the sentence. Then two of the pictures will disappear and the last one will remain. Any students who chose that remaining picture recieve a point.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw student focus to the target structure.

Make a hand gesture for I am, unsually students clap their hand together in front of them selves. Then introduce We are. Also give it a gesture, usually the pair at a table will clap hands together or hug.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Play a spinner game with We are. Three students come to the front and the fastest to answer gets to spin the spinner.

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Play the Dino bomb game.
