Main Aims

To review and extend students awareness of past simple, past perfect and past perfect continious and to give controlled and semi-controlled practice of these within the context of a mysterious story.
Subsidiary Aims

To give students opportunity to practice speaking for fluency implementing the target language.
Procedure (33-43 minutes)
T puts Ss in pairs (detectives and suspects) Ss (detectives) to ask Qs to Ss (suspects) "What did you do 3 nights ago? (Saturday night)" so Ss can use different past tenses T to monitor how familiar Ss are with the tenses Some "detectives" to re-tell where their "suspects" were on Saturday night
T to show Ss model sentence on board T to elicit from Ss the use of the past tense verbs WC confirmation of meaning Give HO with sample sentences and ask for predictions
Ss to work in pairs on ex. 1, p. 46 Put on board and discuss form with Ss S to WC feedback T ask Ss to predict how sentences will be pronounced in ex. 1, p. 47 Ss to tell each other in pairs Ss to listen to recording and then repeat (as group, as sections, one by one)
