Description

Students will learn about some common singular articles of clothing.

Main Aims

  • Students will be able to talk about their everyday clothes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • New Words: dress, shirt, T-shirt, skirt, hat,
  • Grammar: This is my .../ Is this your...? Yes, it is./ No, it isn't.

Procedure

Warm Up Video (3-5 minutes) • To get students focused and ready to learn

Play a dance video for students to enjoy.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Introduce words. Have students practice pronouncing the words in chorus and individually. Play Monster Swap.

Highlighting • To review target language

Recycle the structure : This is my ... Practice making sentences with the new words.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Play T-shirt race. select 4 to 6 students from each team. The students will have to put on an oversized t-shirt and make the sentence with the flash card they have secured to the shirt with velcro, before taking the shirt off and passing it to the next student to repeat until the last student in line.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Review Is this your..? Structure Put both Structures on the board and remind students that these are only used for singular objects.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Play Dice stacker Students will make a stack of dice but they must say the answer to the Yes/No question each time they add a dice to the stack. The winner receives stars.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Play Kaboom Students will play in pairs. Each pair will have a set of cards that they will take turns picking and adding to their placemat. If they receive a boom however they must put all the clothes they had previously picked up back in the deck, but place the boom on the placemat. The first player to fill their mat is the winner. Note that on each card there is a question the students must read and answer based on the picture.
