AI assisted Reading
intermediate level
Materials
Main Aims
-
To enhance students’ reading comprehension skills by analyzing their test performance using AI-generated feedback and applying targeted strategies to improve their ability to understand, process, and summarize texts effectively.
Subsidiary Aims
-
Error Analysis & Self-Reflection – Students will identify common mistakes in their reading test responses using AI-generated feedback and learn how to avoid them in future assessments. Vocabulary Development – Students will reinforce their understanding of key words from the test by incorporating them into their rewritten summaries. Paraphrasing & Summarizing Skills – Students will practice rewriting AI-generated summaries in their own words, improving their ability to express ideas concisely and accurately. Test-Taking Strategies – Students will develop better reading techniques such as skimming, scanning, and inference through AI-adapted exercises. Peer Collaboration & Feedback – Students will review each other’s rewritten summaries, using AI-assisted grammar and clarity checks to refine their writing.
Procedure (35-43 minutes)
T says: "Today, we will take a reading test, but instead of just checking your scores, we will use AI to analyze class performance and improve!" T explains: "You will complete the test, share your results with me, and AI will generate feedback on class strengths, weaknesses, and ways to improve." T asks Ss: "What do you usually struggle with in reading tests?" (e.g., vocabulary, inference, timing). Ss discuss in pairs and share their biggest challenges.
T distributes the reading test (printed or Google Forms). Ss complete the test within the time limit (20 minutes). Ss submit their answers (either digitally or on paper). T collects responses and inputs them into ChatGPT for performance analysis. 🔹 AI Integration: T copies student responses into ChatGPT, which generates a report on class strengths, weaknesses, and common errors.
T shares ChatGPT’s performance insights: Class average score Most difficult questions Common mistakes & explanations AI-suggested strategies for improvement Ss discuss in groups: "Did you expect these results?" "Which questions were hardest for you?" T reintroduces the hardest questions and asks Ss to solve them again using AI-generated hints and explanations. Pairs compare their first vs. second attempts and discuss improvements. 🔹 AI Integration: ChatGPT analyzes mistakes and provides AI-generated hints to improve comprehension.
T gives students a short AI-generated article summary related to the reading test topic (ChatGPT). Ss must rewrite the summary in their own words, using at least three new words from the test. Ss use Grammarly AI to check their writing for clarity and grammar. Pairs exchange their work and give feedback based on AI suggestions. T asks volunteers to share their revised summaries with the class. 🔹 AI Integration: ChatGPT generates a simplified summary of a related article. Grammarly AI helps Ss improve their rewritten summaries.
