Main Aims

  • Students will accurately and confidently be able to use the target structure.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Review Words: bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, shower, bed, cupboard, TV, sofa, table, lamp, tub
  • Grammar : Where's the bed? It's next to the table.

Procedure

Warm up Video (2-4 minutes) • To get students focused and ready to learn

Play a video for students to sing and dance to.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Review the structure from Lesson 4. The bed is next to the lamp. Play Disappearing Picture. A room will appear for a few seconds and then disappear leaving an peice of furniture. Students will race to make the answer. Then the winner will be able to choose whether they want to open the mystery box or if they want to throw it at another team. After each round the teacher will repeat the sentence using It's to replace the first furniture peice.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Formally introduce the new structure: It's next to the bed. Practice changing the sentence in chorus and individually.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for free practice

Play the balloon pop game.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Play Sentence builder Students will look at the screen picture to make the sentences with the word cards provided. The fastest team will get to roll the dice.

Final Practice Practice (6-8 minutes) • To further embed the target language for students.
