Listening Friday March 28
A1-B1 Vets level

Description

Students will practice natural listening comprehension through music and real-world veterinary conversations, reinforcing conditionals and connectors in a fun and engaging way.

Materials

Abc Audio Clips
Abc Worksheets

Main Aims

  • Students can understand and complete a lyric gap-fill exercise with conditionals.
  • Students identify connectors and conditionals in a real conversation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students engage in a relaxed, natural listening activity while improving fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Play a short part of the song (without lyrics). Ask: "What do you think this song is about?" "Can you predict some words that might appear?"

While-Reading/Listening #1 (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Song: "If I Were a Boy" – Beyoncé (or another song rich in conditionals) Students listen and fill in missing words from the lyrics. Discussion: How does the song use conditionals? Example Lyric Gap Exercise: If I _______ a boy, even just for a day... If you _______ me, I wouldn’t have to say...

While-Reading/Listening #2 (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Audio Clip: A casual conversation between a vet and a client, featuring connectors and conditionals in a non-emergency setting. Comprehension Questions: What is the client’s main concern? What does the vet recommend? What conditional sentence does the vet use?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Pair Discussion: "What was the easiest and hardest part of today’s listening activities?" Whole-Class Reflection: "How can we practice listening skills outside of class?"
