Description

Students will practice negotiating solutions to veterinary problems using zero and first conditionals in structured and free conversation.

Materials

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead in/ Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students, To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Write on the board: “What do you do if a client refuses your advice?” Pair Discussion: Students brainstorm possible responses. Introduce useful negotiation phrases: “If you follow my instructions, your pet will recover faster.” “If we don’t treat the infection, the problem will get worse.”

Useful Language (18-20 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Matching Activity: Students match problems to possible solutions using conditionals. Example: Problem: “The dog refuses to take pills.” Solution: “If you crush the pill into wet food, he will eat it.”

Productive Task(s) (53-55 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Role-Play: Negotiating Solutions Small Groups: Each group gets a challenging veterinary scenario. Example: “A client refuses surgery for their pet.” One student plays the owner, the other plays the vet. Students must: Ask and answer questions. Offer at least three solutions using conditionals. Discussion & Speaking Challenge (15 min) Debate: “Should vets refuse treatment if owners don’t follow their advice?” Students must use at least three conditionals in their arguments.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
