Teaching Practice 1
Upper-Intermediate level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To review and extend students’ awareness of future forms – will, going to, present continuous, and present simple – and give controlled practice in them in the context of optimism.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To give students practice in listening for gist, specific information and detail.
Procedure (37-46 minutes)
The teacher will try to ask the students what they are optimistic about or if they can remember what the others are optimistic about. The teacher will ask to students to listen to five people answering the same question "What are you optimistic about?" and to figure out what they are optimistic about.
Students will listen to five people and complete the chart in the handout. While they are listening the teacher draws the same chart on the board. When listening is done students check their answers with their peers. Students will be randomly chosen and they will come to the board and complete the chart.
The teacher will give the second listening exercise handout to the students. The teacher will ask students to discuss in pairs to see if they can remember what was said and if the statements are true or false. Students will listen again and check their answers. Students check their answers in pairs again. The teacher will take feedback from the students as the final check.
The teacher will ask the students to sit in small groups and each group will be given the handout of the third listening exercise. The teacher will ask the students to discuss the question in the handout in their groups. The teacher will take some general feedback.
The teacher will give the students the first grammar exercise hand out. The teacher will ask the students to focus on sentences from the listening. The teacher will ask the students to complete grammar Ex1 and discuss it in their groups. The teacher will take feedback. The teacher will further explain the differences between the future forms.
The teacher will give the students the second grammar exercise handouts. The students will work in their groups to complete the task. The teacher will take some feedback.
The teacher will give each of the groups a copy of the third Grammar exercise. Students will discuss the question in Grammar exercise 3 in their groups. The teacher will take feedback.
