Procedure (39-48 minutes)
Elicit "be married" and "got married" "I got married in May. I am still married." Get them to use the present perfect simple. Then ask "How long have I been married?" Elicit the sentence "I have been married for 4 months/since May" concept check, drill, write and work on stress. Elicit "teach" Do the same thing with "I have thought English since 2008"
Draw a time line and write "I have been married since May- for 5 months" I have been a teacher since 2008 - for 5 years I haven't been to my parents' house since last week/ for a week. Give the ss HOs. Ask them to complete the table. Stick "FOR" and "SINCE" papers on the wall and ask them to stick appropriate time adverbs below them. (4 minutes) Right after this activity, ask ss to write 2 sentences using present perfect simple and the time expressions with "for" and "since" (6 min.)
When ss finish the activity ask them to answer the questions in ex. 2 Demo: "You have been in this classroom for ... hours" (Have been = be because ss are in the classroom now.) " You have been in Beşiktaş many times. (Have been = go because ss are not in Beşiktaş now). Ask them to work on their own. Then ask ss to check their partners' answers, work in pairs and ask feedback.
Ex 2-2 ask them to make real sentences about themselves using since, for , never. Check their mistakes in their sentences and take notes. Write some of the mistakes in the sentences on the board and ask them to correct each others' error.
Ask ss to look at ex. 3. Ask ss to get up and find a partner then ask about students' recent experiences and discuss them with the class.
