Main Aims

  • Students will be able to talk about where things are in the house iwth expanded vocabulary

Subsidiary Aims

  • Grammar: The cat is in front of/ behind the sofa. The cat is between the sofa and the bookshelf.

Procedure

Warm Up Dance (3-5 minutes) • To get students focused and ready to learn

Allow students some time to dance to a video to prepare for the lesson.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Review Prepositions from grade 1: in, on, under, next to. Add in front of behind and between. Ask the students to place a ball in a position around 2 cups using the target language.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Put the target strucutres on the board. Let students practice a bit.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will look at pictures and try to find the cat around the furniture in the room. The winner will play the Don't Topple ME! Stick game.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Play The Box game where there is either cheese or a cat in the box. Students will come to the front and answer the question. Once everyone has said it satisfactorily, the students will choose a box. If the get a cat they loose stars if they get cheese the gain stars.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Play Spider man Snakes and Ladders.
