Procedure (38-46 minutes)
Play Beatles' "Imagine" when students enter the classroom and ask about the band. When they say their name elicit "band" and write on the board. Employ CCQ: Are The Beatles singers? Are they a band? Ask a popular band in Turkey. Maybe MFÖ? What sort of music do they play? Elicit "sell out","decent","give up".
Give the HO and discuss the questions in ex.1. Ask them to work with their partners ans discuss the questions 3-4 min. Ask them to read the extract quickly and give 1 minute. Then ask "Who is Matt McKay and why is he giving an interview?", "Why do you think he left the band?". Go through the possible answers.
Play the first part of the interview and ask them to tick the reasons why he left the band. Demonstrate first on the board. Give 3 minutes. Allow them to compare notes in pairs before checking answers with the class. b,d,f are correct. Write answers on the board.
Before the rest of the interview ask them to look at ex 3 and match each verb in column A with the most suitable phrase from column B. More than one answer is possible. ICQ!- Are you working alone or in pairs? Do you need a pen?- PW T-S Make sure everyone understands the items. Ask them to check the items they think Matt is going to do and cross the ones Matt isn't going to do. Demonstrate on the board. Play the recording. While they are listening, stick the answers on the walls. Check whether they predicted correctly or not.
Divide sts into pairs and ask them to stand up and discuss the different options with a partner. about which they would prefer to be: rich, famous or both. Ask them to give reasons. Go around offering help and make sure sts give reasons for their opinion. FB session: find out how many chose each option. Then ask them to change partners.
