To provide clarification, review and practice of present simple ( affirmative and negative) in the context of first, second and third person.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide accuracy speaking practice in pronunciation of third person verb forms.
Procedure (75-100 minutes)
Check HW. Use ex 1 pg 20 as a lead in. Ask ss to do this individually and then check answers in pairs. I feedback, emphasize the verb form. Is this happening now or in the past? Go to page 153 Vocabulary Bank. Do this as a matching exercise in groups. Ask ss to go to the other tables and check answers. Pre teach vocab: weather, careful, special time, rains, quickly, expensive, pubs, programmes Listen and check answers.
Exercise 2a Page 20. Read the statements in the speech bubbles. Instruct ss to read the text and answer if these statements are true or false. Check in pairs and open group feedback.
Show the rules with cards on the WB. Clarify- only change in the present simple is the addition of s or es in third person singular. Go to exercise 3 A Work individually. Check in pairs. Elicit answers as an open group during feedback. Refer to the board work for clarification and correction. Highlight use of don't and doesn't in the negative form. Show contracted forms of both- do+ not= don't does+ not= doesn't Almost always used as the contracted form. Go to exercise 3B Demonstrate , work individually, check in pairs. Elicit from group. Refer to board work for corrections.
Clarify Ss' understanding of singular and plural. Go to exercise 3a on pg 20. Elicit from ss. Highlight /s/ (books) /z/ (keys) /iz/ (watches) 3b- Listen and drill for practice.
Go to 3c on pg 20 for controlled practice before free practice. Highlight the rules of using the present simple tense once before going to 3d. Demonstrate with a s. (use examples from pg 153) Once the ss have practiced, change partners. Ask them to tell their new partners what their old partners said. Demonstrate use of third person. Pair ss and practice. Monitor and note.
