Procedure (41-51 minutes)
- show the Ss slide 1 onto the W/B - choose one of the Ss and ask him/her to choose one of the options in the slide - ask the student some questions about his/her option - show interest and ask more questions to present the TL - Show slide 3 onto the w/b with HO1 and ask the Ss to do the same by choosing one option from the box and write down three or four things about it - set time limit 2 minutes. monitor and help where needed - after the Ss have finished prompt them to tell their partners - set time limit 3 minutes, monitor and help where needed - get feedback as w/c
- Tell Ss we will listen to four tracks of some people making conversation - Show slide 4 onto the w/b and tell Ss to listen and match with the pictures - play the four recordings all the way through - Tell Ss to check with their partners - set time limit 1 minute - get feedback as w/c
- show slide 5 onto the w/b and show HO2 - tell Ss to choose the correct answer - give out HO2 and set time limit 2 minutes - make sure Ss do the activity individually - Tell Ss to listen again and check their answers. play the four tracks once again - after the tacks have finished tell Ss to check with their partner - take feedback as w/c
- show slide 6 onto the w/b and elicit the meanings of interest and conversations - ask Ss the question (how to show interest in conversation) - elicit some answers from the students - demonstrate by making conversation with a student and show interest and another one without showing interest and ask Ss which conversation shows interest more
- ask if the Ss still remember the listening track - make sure whether they want to listen to the tracks again or not - show slide 8 onto the w/b and HO3 make they don't unfold the paper - Tell Ss to write questions to show interest from the tracks. Ss do the activity individually - set time limit 3 minutes - tell Ss to check with their partners - Tell Ss to unfold the paper and check their answers - Show the answers onto the w/b model and drill the sentences. place the rising intonation onto the questions
- Tell Ss to get their HO1 ready - let Ss swap their HOs with their partners - after everyone have swapped their papers tell Ss to unfold their papers and write questions that show interest on their partners' sentences - set time limit 3 minutes - monitor, help where needed and make sure Ss are using the target language - ask Ss to swipe the papers back to their partners - Tell Ss to repeat the conversation in warmer exercise and answer by asking questions they wrote on their partners' papers - Monitor and make sure Ss are doing the activity correctly. - if more time is available correct and reformulate from the monitoring stage
