Main Aims

  • Ss will learn some AI-related vocabulary (prompt, response, hallucinate, hallucination)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a clear and engaging listening practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Activity: Guess the Topic Through AI-Generated Pictures Description: Begin the lesson by displaying two AI-generated images related to the topic of artificial intelligence. Ask students to guess what the images represent and how they relate to AI. Objective: To stimulate curiosity and activate prior knowledge about AI, prompting students to express their thoughts and questions. Teacher's Role: Facilitate the discussion by asking probing questions such as: "What do these images make you think about?" "How do you think these relate to artificial intelligence?" "What prior knowledge do you have about AI?"

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Activity: Reading and Listening to a Funny Story Description: Provide students with a reading passage of a funny story that includes the target AI-related vocabulary: prompt, response, hallucinate, and hallucination. After reading, play an audio version of the story. Objective: To allow students to explore the context of the vocabulary through an engaging narrative. Teacher's Role: Guide students as they read and listen, encouraging them to take notes on how the vocabulary words are used in context. Ask them to identify any initial questions or confusions.

Highlighting (6-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Activity: Group Discussion and Vocabulary Definition Description: After reading and listening, organize students into small groups to discuss their understanding of the vocabulary words. Each group can then present their interpretations and definitions. Objective: To clarify and solidify understanding of the terms prompt, response, hallucinate, and hallucination through peer discussion. Teacher's Role: Facilitate the discussion by asking: "Can someone provide a definition for 'prompt' based on our story?" "How did the characters in the story experience 'hallucination'?"

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Activity: Vocabulary Quiz and Reflection Description: Administer a brief quiz assessing students' understanding of the vocabulary words in context. Additionally, ask students to write a short reflection on how their understanding of AI-related vocabulary has changed. Objective: To evaluate student comprehension of vocabulary and their ability to articulate their learning journey. Teacher's Role: Review quiz responses and reflections to gauge overall understanding and address any misconceptions. Provide feedback that encourages further exploration of AI vocabulary.

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Activity: Application through Scenario Creation Description: Students will create their own scenarios or short narratives using the target vocabulary. They can work individually or in pairs to develop their scenarios, ensuring to incorporate prompt, response, hallucinate, and hallucination. Objective: To apply their understanding of the vocabulary words in new contexts. Teacher's Role: Encourage creativity and provide guidance. Ask students to share their scenarios with the class and explain how they incorporated the vocabulary.
