Description

In this lesson ss are going to learn how to deduce meaning from context and to skim through a text to get the gist of it. ss are going to skim through a text, read in detail, discover the meaning of new vocabulary and have discusions in the context of flu,I will give them feed back at the end of the lesson.

Procedure

lead in (3-5 minutes) • set the contect

I put a related quesion on the board and make sure they know what they are supposed to do ask them to work in pairs as I monitor Elicit a few responses

showing the picture (1-2 minutes) • setting the context

I use the pictures in the book to set the context Elicit what they can see and what they think and what they think the text is about

Gist reading (2 minutes) • skim reading

I give them the handout I write a gist question (exercise 1)on the board ask them to skim the text and choose the best purpose for the text and do not worry about any new vocab ask them to check their answers in pairs Elicit the response and take wc fb and discuss reasons for the correct answer

Detailed Reading (5-6 minutes) • to underestand the text in details

I put exercise 2 on the board instruct my learners to read the text again ,this time slowly, and check which advice it is not given and I provide help for new vocabs as I'm monitoring them. ask them to check their answers in pairs Elicit the correct responses and have the answer on the board by an early finisher Deal with any problems inw/c fb and personal reactions to the text

Detailed Reading (5-6 minutes) • to underestand the text in details

Vocabulary activity (3-4 minutes) • learning new vocabs

I write the exercise on the board give them time to match them with the words I ask them to check in pairs Having the answers on the board by students

Follow up (4-5 minutes) • to make sure that they cam impelement the vocab in and can use what they learned about their real life

write the questions in ex 4 on the board Model the activity ask them to stand up and work in groups and talk about the questions I monitor them and get involved if there is any problem

Feed back 1 (5-6 minutes) • feed back on content

Ask a few learners to share with the class whatever they were talking about acknowledge their effort

post reading (3-4 minutes) • productive skills

I ask them to think about the way to avoid getting cold and get in pairs and talk about it. Elicit and have w/c feed back
