Procedure (36-45 minutes)
Show an image related with the topic and ask the question: "What do you know about China in terms of their economy?" Write in a virtual board or the in the chat the ideas mentioned by the students.
Students look at the text and recognize the words in blue in the article. By using google forms students answer to the following for GIST: "What changes has Shanghai experienced?" The quiz has 2 correct options and 2 wrong. Teacher provides feedback once the quiz is over. Correct answers are: - In the past, there weren't high buildings. Now, the city is full of them. - Its economy had a quick development thanks to trading and manufacturing.
1) For meaning, the teacher shares a quiz link for the students to relate the meaning with the words. The words are: Political, economy, industrial, producer, environmental and polluted. Answers: - producer: a person or entity that makes, grows, or supplies goods for sale - economy: activities related to the production, consumption, and trading - political: connected with the state, government or public affairs - industrial: a business dealing with manufacturing goods - Polluted: contaminated with harmful or poisonous substances - Environmental: related to the natural world and the impact of human activity 2) For form, the teacher elicits information using the 6 words from the lexis to teach: Political, economy, industrial, producer, environmental and polluted. (Slide 5) The following questions are asked to the students: - What is an adjective? What does it modify or describe? - What is a noun? What does it refer to? -Are the words above nouns? Or adjectives? Later teacher clarifies general rule for adjectives and nouns. (Slide 6). The teacher asks the students to read the rules and emphasize the fact that this is a general rule and exceptions can appear. Finally, the teacher shares a quiz link for the students to organize the adjectives and nouns in a chart. Students complete the activity of filling blanks in an sentences, it's important to note that the words are in the forms they have learned (adjectives, nouns for adjectives and nouns for things). In small groups (2 to 3 students), share their opinions about the following question: "How things have changed in your country in terms of economy, industry or politics in the last 10 years?" Teacher provides feedback and closes the lesson.
