Description
Main Aims
-
To practice the productive skill of Speaking by talking about famous proverbs, and trying to complete it. Then by talking about their own writings about (environmental worries in Turkey).
Subsidiary Aims
-
To practice the productive skill of Writing on a specific subject which is (environmental worries in Turkey).
Procedure (28-42 minutes)
-To introduce the lesson and make the context of the lesson interesting for SS, by saying a famous Turkish proverb in English. -Ask the SS questions like : What do we call this? Do you know any other proverbs? -Feedback on some answers. -Write the word "proverb" on WB and have SS repeat it.
-Instruct the SS about HO1 : You will have a reading, then decide on the meaning of each proverb - give HO1 (contains some famous Turkish proverbs). -form groups and instruct to read the proverbs and guess their meaning. - feedback and discuss their true meaning.
- Instruct the SS about HO2 : You will have a quick reading, then decide what is it about? - give HO2 (contains a proverb that is not complete) - Feedback on the main theme of the proverb -Work in pairs and give two possible options to finish the proverb. - Feedback to check that the SS are doing the right thing. - Form groups and each group should come with only two possible options to finish the proverb. - Feedback on some answers. - Form bigger groups and each group should come with only two possible options to finish the proverb. - Feedback on some answers. - Draw SS attention to the real ending of the proverb , and write the ending on the WB. - Feedback on similarities and differences between the real ending and the SS endings .
-Form new groups, and nominate a secretary for each group to do the writings. -Give SS directions to write a small paragraph about environmental worries in Turkey . -Give SS HO3 (empty colored papers). -Make secretaries post their paragraphs around the room . -ask the students to stand up and mingle, reading the other paragraphs. - Feedback by discussing the top environmental worries included in the paragraphs .
- Give instructions to SS to go back to HO2. - Draw attention to the rhetorical question. - Discuss the form , and the absence of the question mark . - instruct the SS to come up with a rhetorical question individually. A short well-known saying stating a general truth, or piece of advice Or wisdom.
