Description

in this lesson students practice the new words the learned in the previous lessons through reading a text, they'll be given both gist and detailed questions as controlled practice to answer.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about a mother and a child in the context of shopping for new clothes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of colour words in the context of shopping for new clothes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

on this stage I start by asking the students what is their favorite color and I check if they remember the favorite color of other students then I ask the student to look at the pictures on page 56 and I introduce the main characters (Max and His mom) then I ask the student what do they think they are doing, I finish this stage by asking the students what colors they see on the pictures

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

in this stage I ask the student to look carefully at the pictures on page 56 then I point to items of clothing and ask them what the word is, then I point to item of clothing and ask questions such as; are these trousers orange or blue? is this T-shirt green, blue or orange?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage I ask the student to look at the pictures again and I tell them they're going to hear a conversation about Max and His mum and they need to listen and follow silently. the students will hear the conversation a second time and are asked to find the answers of two gist questions, what is Max's favorite color? and why does he like it? the answers are checked with the whole class

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

in this stage I write 3 sentences from practice number 3 on page 56 on the whiteboard and then I ask the students to close their student books and pay attention to the whiteboard, I explain to the students that each sentence has a wrong word they need to find and circle the wrong word and write the correct word, together with the students we do the first sentence then I give the students 5 minutes to read the text and find the answers, the answers will be checked with the whole class (students come to the front to circle the wrong word)

Post-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

on this stage students are asked to do the exercise on page 56 (read and fill in the blanks) of their workbook in 4 minutes then the answers will be check with the whole class
