Description

In this lesson children (4.5-5.5 years) are going to learn some food names, use these new words in common phrases

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of food names and communicate in english in a group

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide inference listening practice using a text about favorite food
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in asking questions in the context of likes/ dislikes

Procedure

Warm up (3-5 minutes) • to prepare students for speaking in english

Children found a box with little tubes inside. Everyone takes a tube and tries to say the sound Look, food, good, book. Then teacher shows a cookbook. They look through it together.

Revision of colors (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of nessecary phrase

Children plays the game "Run and touch" to review colors. Children have to practice the phrase "It's blue, it's red"

Lead in (5-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language

Teacher tells the story: "Last weekend I visited grandma and we decided to cook something very delicious. Grandma gave me a cookbook, we chose only favorite food recipe to cook it together". Teacher ask "What food do you like?"

Body (15-20 minutes) • To learn, to drill some new words and use it in everyday language

1. Presentation of new vocabulary (teacher uses flashcards, intonation and food toys) burger donut sandwich chicken cookie pasta pancakes 2. Drilling - Clever parrots (if teacher says correct words - children repeat, if teacher says wrong words - children keep the silence) - Run and touch - Wheel (cildren spin the wooden wheel and name the flashcard) 3. Practice (food and colors) - teacher brought a sack with toy food, everyone takes one toy and say the phrase (for example: cookie is brown) - use colored pencils and color food in a worksheet

Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide listening comprehension in english

Teacher turns on the audio, children have to match hero and his/her favorite food

Speaking (5-7 minutes) • To provide speaking practice and skill of asking

Children use a spoon, they spin it and ask each other: Do you like...? and then answer Yes, I do/ No, I don't

Homework • to make a conclusion and check homework

We check hw in activity books and during this process teacher ask the question: What's your favorite food? One by one
