Elicit the outback&aborigine Put the categories vocabulary from the speaking exercise 1 on the w/b. Tell Ss to work in pairs and share everything they know about Australia. Get w/c feedback
Show the Ss the HO1 and tell them to decide if they know or don’t know the words & put them in the appropriate column. Ss work alone to consider vocabulary Then tell Ss to work in pairs so that they will help each other with the words Get w/c feedback and deal with the problematic ones. (If there is enough time, get a few Ss to the w/b to write up the ones they don't know)
Check that Ss know what a “web diary” is. Tell them they’re going to read one about a trip around Australia. Show them the questions on the slide. Tell Ss to read the first part only quickly to answer the questions. Tell Ss to check their answers with the person sitting next to them. Take w/c feedback.
Focus Ss on the statements in ex 2. Tell Ss to work in pairs and read the second part of the text and decide if they are true or false. Ss read and decide on answers. Get them check their answers with other groups, then check them against the answer keys on the walls. Get w/c feedback Ask further questions to check their understanding.
Focus Ss on ex 3 and tell them to work in small groups to find adjectives in the text used to describe different things, e.g. people (do this first example w/c to check Ss know what they’re doing) Ss check their answers against an answer key.
To wrap up, ask Ss if they’d like to go to Australia after reading/hearing about it. (if there is enough time, they can discuss it as a group, then share their ideas with the whole class)
