To provide gist reading using a text about Parents and Children in the context of childcare and detailed reading practice using specific information from a text that includes vocabulary and phrases such as dread and clucking like nervous hens.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification of some metaphorical expressions that can be applied in the context of relationships between people.
Procedure (36-46 minutes)
- Ask students who are married and have children to stand on the right side of the classroom and those who don't have kids on the left side and pair them off - Put three pictures on the wb : - What are these? - Have you ever read a parenting manual ? - Do you think that parenting is something that can be learned from a book or is it instinctive ? - Work in pairs .Say to your partner if you think that parenting is something that can be learn from a book or it is something innate .
- Do you raise your childen the same way your parents did ? - Do you behave with your kids like how your parents behaved with you ? In pairs,you have 2 minutes to talk about the difference about parenting in the past and parenting now
Read the information about an American childcare manual and its author . -How do you think the different editions of the book might have been influenced by the changing times?
1-Read the text and decide if the sentences are True or false . 2- Correct the wrong ones . 3- Discuss your answer with your partner.
1-Ask a strong student mime/ guester a set of words in front of class . 2- Explain that these words are metaphors used when talking about family relationships . 3- Draw two columns and write up the headings A- Good relationships / B- Ending relationship 4-Have the students work in pairs and put the metaphors in their right columns. 5- Talk about people in your family or in families you know using the expressions above.
