Main Aims
-
To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about celebrities in the context of what celebrities were like as students.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of what do you think your teachers thought of you.
Procedure (19-27 minutes)
In this stage the students are asked to say who their favorite celebrity is and what they think they were like as students.
first students are asked two questions about the two celebrities(Alex Turner and J.K. Rowling): who do you think was probably the most popular student and who was probably the quietest student? secondly the students are going to be taught the meaning of vocabularies: fame(noun of famous), academy(n), spark(n), author(n), poetry(n), prison(n) and they will try to match the words with the definitions and they will be asked to use the words in some examples.
In this stage the students will be asked to read the article briefly to get the gist of the article and answer the questions again to see if they were right: who was the quietest student? who was the more popular one?
In this stage the students will be asked to read the text more carefully and answer the questions below: -who had family problems while he/she was at school? -who sometimes sees his/her old student perform? -who thinks he/she is similar to a character in his/her student's books? -who was not very interested in what he/she became famous for?
In this stage students will be asked to discuss the following question in groups of three and then share it with the whole class: -when you were at school, what do you think your teachers thought of you?
