Procedure (38-45 minutes)
I will show SS a short video clip from the movie When Harry Met Sally and ask students to guess today`s topic. Use ICQ here. If they still don`t get it I will try to elicit it by drawing pictures on the board (a heart etc.)
A) Pre-teach Vocabulary using pictures and eliciting: 1. engaged 2. married 2. divorced 3. summer house Use CCQ's - what is the difference between engaged and married? Put SS in 3 groups - pistachio, mango, strawberry B) Show SS Paper strips - instruct that they will read them first then put them in order. Use ICQ's . Give SS 2 mins to do this. Hand out answer key so they can check.
A) Show HO to students, ask SS to focus on the pictures. Pass out the HO - Elicit from students - Who are these people? What are their names? How old do you think they are? B) Explain that we will be doing Exercise #2. read what is underneath - what do you think happened next? First read, then discuss in pairs. Use ICQ's Give them 2 minutes - when they are done they will check in pairs. C) Listening task - Exercise #4 - Give clear Instructions and ICQ's - It's ok if SS don't get all the answers. - After first listening, they can check in pairs.
A) Exercise #5 Write on board: C=Carly, N=Ned, E=Eric, L=Lori Explain clearly - write the correct letter in the boxes and say what is it about. Give a demo/example. SS will work in pairs Play recording a second time. Display Answer key on Board B) Speaking Exercise #6 Explain clearly using ICQs. Assign everyone as either Carly, Ned, Eric or Lori They will tell the story of how they met their spouse in pairs .
Speaking Questions: In pairs, they will discuss the following questions - these will be posted on the board: 1. Are you married? How did you meet? 2. When did your parents or grandparents meet? Where? How? 3. How did your friends meet their spouses?
