Description

In this lesson, Students practice their reading skills through 3 stories about vacations. After lead in stage they practice their reading for gist, reading for specific info and reading for details skills having a pair work after each one by the text. The lesson ends with a follow up task asking their opinion that whose vacation was more interesting to them.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, Specific info and detailed reading practice using a text about vacations in the context of what some people did on their last weekend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of vacation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

remind students of the last session grammar and clarifying that we're going to read a text and practice past simple tense through it. Then show the pictures on slides and say 'What can you see in the pictures? Who are they? Now I want you two by two discuss the pictures. you've got 2 mins' Demo: Ask a student 'What do you think? I think they are friends...'I.C.Q: 'What are you going to do now?in pairs or alone? How much time?'

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

give them the worksheets and take their dictionaries from them and Say 'Ok, Thank you. Read the stories alone to see if your guesses are true or not. you've got only 2 mins' I.C.Q: 'What are you going to do now? How much time?' Peer check: 'Now two by two check your answers. What did you think and what were they in the reality?' W/C F.B: ask two students: 'What did you talk about in your group. what did you think. what were they in the reality?'

While-Reading/Listening #2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Say 'Thank you. Now Look at the practice C and read the questions. Then read the stories again and answer them. You do this alone and you've got three minutes. For Ex: Rafaela went to small port city of sisal with her husband. Is it True or False? TRUE' I.C.Q:' What are you going to do now? How much time? alone or two by two?' Peer work: 'Ok, thank you. Now two by two check your answers' show the correct answers on the board and say : 'Very good, Now the correct answers are on the board stand up and check' W/C F.B: 'Have you got the same answers?'

While-Reading/Listening #3 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with a challenging and demanding detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Say' Now read the practice D'. Wait for them to read it. Say: 'Read the stories again and two by two do the practice D. you've got 4 minutes' I.C.Q: 'What are you going to do now? How much time do you have? Are you going to do it alone?' W/C F.B: ask two or three student of their answers.

Post teach language (2 minutes) • To introduce them to new vocabularies

draw a line by which introduce Students to some new vocabularies in a clin way

Follow-up task (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Say 'whose vacation was more interesting to you'. wait for some responses. Say: 'Now two by two share your answers. Whose vacation was more interesting to you and why. use simple past grammar and these vocabularies you just learned' pointing to new vocabularies on the board.'you've got 3 minutes' I.C.Q: ' what are you going to do? how much time?' W/C F.B: Ask two students 'What did you talk about in your group? which one was more interesting to you. what about your partner?'
