Procedure (32-45 minutes)
To ensure the ss' name cards are ready and in place. Divide ss into 3 groups.
Make sure they know months of the year by playing a game of naming months in the right sequence either by making the students recite them one after the other or as a group if they find it difficult. Drill, especially the pronunciation of some months. To further set the context: Show seasons on the S/Board or display pictures around the class in case of technical difficulties. Pre-teach the following words: seasons, sunbathe, hot, warm, cold, cool, festival, joke, amazing, sailing, skiing, water-sports, Ask where they would sunbathe- Beach Does UAE have rainy season?- No Is it warm during summer in the UAE?- No.Hot
Distribute handouts. Clearly demonstrate which piece of text is meant for each group. Give enough time to ss to read the text. Monitor and help if ss ask.(5 mins) Display questions from page 32 of reference material on the board and drill groups individually with questions relevant to their group only. SS need to answer question relevant to their group and then ask the others questions about their text. . instruct clearly and follow it up with a demo of the first question. Drill appropriately once completed. Ss practise.
Stick pictures of the seasons on the white board. Handout cards with activities associated with all season to the ss. .Ask ss to read out the activity on their card and stick it under the correct season. Demonstrate with one example Ask for feedback: Did they find the activity easy or difficult?
Group ss in pairs. Demonstrate to show that one ss will ask one of these questions: What is your favourite season?What do you do in different seasons? The other answers in one word. Monitor. Help the weaker students. Display the pictures of difficult words shown at the beginning and drill as a group, if time permits.
