Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn past perfect by having a short conversation about memorable occurrences in our daily lives and using sentences containing past perfect and engaging the students in this conversation through PPP. After this lesson finishes the students should be able to form correct sentences in this tense and also learn when they should use it. The lesson will be finished by doing some exercises and students telling each other about some of their fun and shocking memories.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of favorite movie or book

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage i will say something about an unexpected thing that happened to me recently and in the process i will use the past perfect tense so that they would be a bit familiar with it. i will also ask them to tell the class if they have experienced something similar to this that they would like to share.

Highlighting (1-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage i will write some of the examples on the board to get the students' attention on the TL.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage i will clarify this tense by giving an example of two completed actions in one sentence and asking them to tell me which one they think happened first and then show it on a timeline. I will also ask some CCQ questions: -Are the sentences about past, present or future? past -Is the action in the sentence completed or is it still continuing? it is completed. -Is the form of past perfect the same for all pronouns? yes In this stage i will also clarify the whole structure of the past perfect tense and the regular and irregular verbs and the pp form and pronunciation. I will also clarify that when ‘d means would and when it means had.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students will do some exercises prepared for them from task b on page 149 in 2 minutes and then we will check the answers together for about 3 minutes.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about their most shocking and unexpected things that have happened to them and that they have witnessed in groups of 3 and then each of them will tell the whole about it and they will all comment on each other's stories.
