TO GIVE THE STUDENTS AN INTRODUCTION TO READING ABOUT DIFFERENT OPINIONS ON FOOD AND DIETARY HABITS. IT WILL ENCOURAGE THEIR READING AND MAKE THEM IDENTIFY SPECIFIC POINTS OF INTEREST IN THE TEXTS

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. GET STUDENTS TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES 2. PLACE SIX FOOD TYPES ON THE WALL AND SIX COUNTRIES ON THE WB. THEY HAVE TO IDENTIFY THE CORRECT RELATIONSHIPS. 3. HAVE QUICK COMPETITIVE GAME WHERE 3 GROUPS (ICE CREAM, CHIPS, NOODLES) RACE TO PUT ON WB AS MANY DIFFERENT FOOD TYPES AS THEY CAN REMEMBER. PENALISE FOR SPELLING MISTAKES.

INTRODUCE SOME VOCABULARY FROM THE TEXTS (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

DEMONSTRATE ON WB THE WORDS: DIET CUT DOWN PLEASURE FUEL

INTRODUCE ALICE'S TEXT AND THE THE ASSOCIATED MATCHING SENTENCES (10-20 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

STUDENTS FIRST READ THE TEXT. I THEN QUESTION THEM ON THE MATCHING SENTENCES

STUDENTS IN 3 GROUPS READ JACQUELINE'S TEXT AND WORK OUT COLLABORATIVELY THE MATCING QUESTIONS (20-30 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

STUDENTS READ THE TEXT AND DISCUSS SUITABLE ANSWERS

Post-Reading/Listening (30-40 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1.STUDENTS ANSWER SPECIFIC QUESTIONS IN THE TEXT RELATING TO THE TWO INTERVIEWS 2. STUDENTS GIVE THEIR OWN VIEWS TO THE QUESTIONS

SUMMARY (40-45 minutes) • ENSURE THE OBJECTIVES HAVE BEEN MET
