Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Second condicional, right structure when writing and speaking in the context of hypothetical situations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking when practicing Second condicional, let Ss speak about stories that could happen. .

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • Sing a aprt of a song. And ask Ss What rules and laws are often ignored in your country? (When you´re driving for example)

Sing a song with the teacher, it will be only the first phrase from Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk (Lyrics) ft. Bruno Mars lyrics. We will read it first a couple of times, then we will sing it in line with the singer. Then the students will have to watch a short video: We are all Breaking the Law without knowing it. The students will be asked what rules and laws are offered in ignore in their country. We will discuss these all together to engage students in the class. Exposure (7-7 minutes) • To provide context of the second condicional.

Students will receive a link to open some slides. They will be asked about how law-abiding they are. The students will be asked about some hypothetical situations where they have three options to answer, and they have to choose one and read it loud to their classmates. Clarification (12-12 minutes) • To clarify the grammar and pronunciation in some situations about second conditional.

The students will have a form to fill. They will have to choose what is the right answer for the time reference in second conditional, the possibility to change the events, what is the right structure for second conditional, among others. Students will send their form and then we will discuss together all the correct answers and the wrong answers. After filling that form they will be sent another form about pronunciation. How to stress sentences comparing two sentences which are the same, but with different stress mark on top or some words. They will have to choose the sentence with the right stress on the words. Controlled Practice (12-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will have another form where they have to write down the right word in the gaps of a sentence given. Each sentence will suggest what word should go in the gaps. Students will have to conjugate the verbs according with the second conditional structure, e. g.: If someone ________ (offer) you a job in the USA, ________ you ________ (accept) it? Free Practice (9-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice for the second conditional.

Students will be provided with 3 Google Slides where they have to choose what words to use from to ask the question to their classmate. Students will work in pairs and the student who is being asked will have to choose two possible answers given on the slide. After day finish the first slide, they will go to the second slide and then the third slide. Example of the first slide: - If/Suppose some friends asked you to look after their four cats for a month, would you agree to do it? Possible answers: - No,I wouldn't, even if/provided they offered to pay me! - Yes, I could, if/provided I didn't have to look after my 7 kids.
