Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To work and revise on the subject "numbers"
Subsidiary Aims
-
Working on numbers via revising the given lexis
Procedure (18-40 minutes)
The sts will participate in a game called "1-2-3-boom" where they will sit in a circle and instead of saying the appropriate number, they will say "boom" in every 4th number following each boom.
They will look at the randomly placed numbers on the WB and will participate in a game where from time to time, the T will try to trick them by calling out the wrong name to the number pointed out.
A couple of number sequences will be placed on the WB with the follow up number/s left blank and sts will try to elicit the answer from the numbers on the board while working in pairs to solve the sequence order first on paper, than sticking the answer to the appropriate place.
They will later start working on a Q & A treasure hunt where they are provided with randomly placed questions on the table and have to look for the answer from a selection also posted around the classroom. The questions and answers are adapted and altered from their "Messages" workbook, activity 1, on page 6. They will then stick both the Q and A on the WB.
The sts will be looking at animal pictures with numbers next to them indicating their quantity and will work on a mathematical vocabulary task. In pairs, they will first group the same animals then do the appropriate mathematical operation by either adding or subtracting their value given. The animal flash cards will be scattered around the previous Q and A cards around the class for a more complex task.
They will be competing each other in two's in the game "board rush". Both the numbers and the animals will be posted on the WB and when they counted back from 3, the students will rush to the board to touch what is being called out by the teacher.
