Procedure (35-51 minutes)
T will display some photos of different people traveling from one part to another part of a country, a continent, or even from one part of the world to another. Ss will discuss different reasons for doing so in pairs.
T will show the picture of the text, write the title of the reading on the board and asks the students if they can make predictions. Ss will discuss in pairs. T will elicit words like: Harley-Davidson, coast, give up, second-hand and reliable. T will pre-teach the words. (Meaning, pronunciation)
T will ask: What would be another good title for the text? 1. A Good Deal 2. A Bad Deal 3. A Fun Ride Ss will read quickly for one minute. (Solo) Ss will put their reading sheets aside and discuss the question in groups. Ss will share their logical reasonings and choose the best answer.
T will introduce the task and ask ICQs. Ss will read the text individually and answer to these questions in pairs. 1. How much did Nick pay for the bike? 2. How much did the mechanic in Denver offer Nick? 3. How much did Nick sell it for? 4. Guess why the mechanic said, "That's the worst deal you'll ever make, boy"? T will monitor and checks the answers to the first three of them. Ss will share ideas with class. To give feedback T will play the audio track. Ss will share what they have heard in groups. T will display the photos.
T will write 2 questions on the board. Do you think the mechanic was fair? How do you think Nick felt? Ss will discuss in groups. Ss will write their reasons on the board. Ss will choose the best answer.
T will write a sentence on the board. ... and he'd finally decided that it was now or never. Ss will decide in pairs. CCQ: Does it mean either now or in the future? Does it mean only now and not in the future? Fixed expressions will be introduced. T will introduce the handout. Ss will work in pairs. T will monitor and give out the answer key.
Ss will share ideas in groups about if any of the sentences in the HO is true for them. T will monitor and ask each group if they have any interesting experience to share. Jigsaw sharing will be used.
