Procedure (35-48 minutes)
T will introduce herself and asks her students' names. T will tell the students that while she was on the way to school, she heard a lot of different news on the radio. Many people are killed in certain parts of the world. A lot of houses were destroyed by the flood.
T will put some pictures of different happenings on the wall. There is a piece of paper with sentence clues stuck on each picture. T will give instructions and ask ICQs. Ss will look at the pictures and try to write sentences using the clues given on the paper. T will monitor and take note. Clues will focus on present simple, present continuous, past simple, past continuous, and present perfect tenses.
T will clarify what students do not know. T will write the sentences on the board and elicit the meaning. T will ask CCQs. Do you know who did it? No Is it important to know? No Is the action related to past? Is the action finished? Was the action in progress in past? Is it related to present? Is it a routine action? Is the action related to now or at the time of speaking? Is the start of the action in past but related to now? T will elicit the form. Which is the verb? How many parts does it have? What is the first part? What is the second part? An accident happened this morning. Can we change all sentences to passive voice? What do you need? Elicit 'object'. T will model and drill the pronunciation. Ss wil change some active sentences to passive in pairs. T will monitor and give feedback on the board and hand in CCQs handout.
T will use a controlled practice. Ss will do the exercises individually and then check in pairs. T will monitor, take notes and give feedback. FB: Answer key
T will introduce the handout (paragraph like), give instructions and ask ICQs. Ss will work in groups and each group will write their answers on the board. T will elicit the meaning by asking CCQs and then form and drill the pronunciation. WC feedback.
Ss will do the survey in pairs after T's instructions and ICQs. Ss will swap their partners and report. T will monitor and point out the errors to the class. T will repeat the CCQs.
Ss will go back to the first pictures and correct themselves. Next ss will share ideas after T's instructions and ICQs. Questions: 1. Would you want to know more about any of the news? 2. What sort of topics do you like reading about in the newspapers? T will monitor and give feedback on the spot.
