Description

In this lesson students build vocabulary about jobs and make simple present staments in both negative and affirmative forms. Students will begin by first brainstorming jobs they think are inetresting and creating a list. Then they will work together to match pictures with jobs and learn the new vocbulary. They will practice speaking about the different jobs in a group activity where they have to find their matching group members and speak about their occupations.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T prepares a screen of different jobs and share a story about what she wanted to be when she was younger, and talks about the different jobs she had growing up (2 mins) -Students work in pairs to talk about what they wanted to be when they were younger and what they are now(2 mins) -Whole class, share some answers form the groups (1 min)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ask students what they wanted to be vs what they are as per warmer. Write the model on the board; "He's a policeman. He's not an actor. " "I'm a teacher. I'm not a waitress" Practice sentence structure as a class. Top Notch pg 4-5 reading and listening

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students work in groups to brianstrom a list of jobs they know of (3-mins) Write the list on the board (3mins) TEST-Teach-Test for additonal jobs. Have students picture match the jobs to the pictures. (5mins) Practice the new words through drilling. (3mins) Practice the senctne strucure- he's a doctor, he's not an architect.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Give students diffeernt job cards- Students need to ask eachother questions to find their partners. There will be 2 students to each group. TL: Are you a doctor? No, I'm a policeman etc Once all students ahve found their partners they need to find out what the other groups do. Make a list of the jobs. Studenst then work with their partnes to think of WHERE they work and WHAT duties they do. IE: A Doctors works in the hospital, he helps sick people.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Take up the final worksheet- Jobs/Places/Duites T writes up various language errors to correct as a whole class.
