Description

In this lesson, sts will practice developing their productive skill (speaking) through the context of "media". They will be discussing many subjects related to this topic. Also, they will learn some vocabulary which will help them express their ideas. Together with this, sts will listen an interview between a journalist and a media worker which will give them a chance to improve their receptive skill (listening). After that, sts will be doing the same interview with their partners.

Main Aims

  • To provide sts fluency in expressing their ideas through discussions and an interview task with their partners in the context of media

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide sts listen for gist and specific information through the context of media and set a model for the speaking task

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

---->Write this quote on the board before the lesson; *“I found television very educational. Every time someone switches it on, I go into another room and read a good book.” (US comedian) ---->Make the sts find the word, MEDIA through hangman. ---->Ask "can you tell me the tools of media?"(Discuss 2 minutes with your partner) -tv, radio, newspaper, magazine, computer, ınternet ---->Make three groups on the board; A)TV and Radio B)Newspaper and Magazine C)Computer and Internet *Ask; Why did I group them like this? What is the difference between them? (Think 1 minute) ---->Then ,give sts a minute to discuss the quotation with their partners and then ask their ideas.

Teaching Vocab (5-7 minutes) • To teach sts relevant vocab in order to help them with their speaking exercises

---->Give sts the puzzle and some time to solve it. ---->They will check their answers with their partners after they finish. ---->They might not know all the vocabulary. That's why I will check one by one (meaning, pronounciation) and put the words in the colums I have made in the previous stage (A-B-C).

Exposure (8-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

--->Sts will listen a model task. It is an interview between o journalist (Helen) and a media worker (Callum). --->In the first exercise, they will listen for gist to find out which types of media Callum uses a lot. *Since it is a long track, they will not listen the whole track in the first exercise. --->In the second exercise, they will listen for specific information, this time the whole track. They will find true and false sentences. Also, they will tell me why the sentences are true or false. *This listening task will be an example for them to achieve their own productive skill (speaking) task.

Futher Discussion (5-8 minutes) • To give Ss practice in speaking for fluency through the context of media

---->Ask each of the student to pick up a number between 1-10. Each number refers to a discussion question. ---->After, everybody chooses its number, I will give them their topic. First they will discuss with their partners and then they will express their ideas about their topic for 1 minute. The other sts can also tell their ideas about each topic.

Productive Task (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skill (speaking)

--->After the listening model, sts will prepare an interview task with their new partners because I will change the partners. ---->I will give sts the same interview questions with the track so as to guide them. 1- Which newspapers do you read? 2- What about magazines? 3- What do you watch on TV? Do you watch TV a lot ? 4- Do you like listening to the radio? When do you usually listen to the radio? 5- How do you use the Internet? What do you use it for? ---->While discussing, they can write their partners' answers because after they finish, I will get feedback; **What did you learn about your partner? *Do you use media in a similar way to your partner?
