Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Passive voise in the context of Asking different questions from students about passive sentences

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of talking more professionally by using passive voice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

in this stage, students will be shown an active sentence and a passive sentence in the present tense. first they will be asked to define every part of the active sentence(which word is sub which is obj...). then they will be asked to specify the differences between active and passive sentence by answering these questions: 1)What is the difference between their verbs? 2)Do we have a sub in this sentence? 3)what role does this word have at the beginning of this sentence? 6)What is the form of the verb in the second sentence? then they will be shown another 2 active and passive sentence but in the past tense. they will define their differences as well.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will give my students some active sentences and they have to change them into passive voice.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will write some of the passive sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage I will go through details and clarify the meaning and form of the passive sentences by asking these questions from my students: 1) Do we have sub in this sentence? 2) what is the form of the verb here? 3)Does it matter who did this here? then are we allowed to delete sub here? 4)What is the role of this word at the beginning of the sentence? are we allowed to delete sub and put the object at the beginning of the sentence? 5)If i add by... at the end of the sentence, does the primary meaning change? no, so we can add (by) at the end of the passive sentence to say who did the thing.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do the exercise A on page 145 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes. they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be asked to talk and discuss about one of their expedition that they went with their school. they should use both active and passive voice in their talking.
