Description

In this lesson students are going to learn using past continuous in the context of story of historical event at the end of this lesson students must be able to differentiate between past continuous and simple past and be able to use it properly

Materials

Abc Pictures
Abc whiteboard
Abc American English file 2 students' book third edition

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of pay continuous in the context of a story about a historical event

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice for proper usage of prepositions of time and place

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage students are going to see a picture and they will be asked about their ideas on the story behind that photo and how we are going to tell stories

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for target language through example and situations

In this stage I will ask my students to tell me some examples considering what they practiced in provide stage

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to target language

In this stage I will write some of my students' sentences on the board and use them to teach important points of TL and correcting their mistakes.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify meaning form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning by drawing a timeline on the board and ask CCQs about it (are the sentences about the past present or future? Are the actions that were are talking about finished or in progress?) after that I will elicit examples from my students to clarify how to form sentences they are going to learn about was/were and how and when to use it and they are going to learn about how to pronounce them in weak form

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be asked to do practice B in grammar bank in page 129 in 3 minutes and then we are going to check the answers with whole class

Free practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be asked to talk about one of their memorable stories in pairs
