Procedure (34-45 minutes)
-T put images of Blind dog eddie and lily on WB -T elicit the word "help" + "true stories" from sts. - ask sts if they can guess what these dogs have in common (one dog is blind and has a dog friend that helps them)
-instruct sts not to look at the sheet. explains that it is a small competition to see who can finish first and second. -T places handout on the desk facedown. when everyone has sheet and ready. begin. -first person to find all words gets a treat.
- T instructs sts not to read handout. T hands out the sheets face down. use ICQ. - once everyone has a sheet, use chesting to show sts we will look at Student A story 1. Use ICQs. - explain that sts will only have 15seconds to scan the story. -sts must underline the word or word phrase. -remind sts that they will not have enough time to read everything. model that I will ask them a question and they must find a detailed piece of info very quickly. -T asks sts questions one at at time. - ask a sts if they found the correct piece of information and give the answer. -depending on the time do 2 or 3 stories.
-put sts into groups of 3/4, depending on class size before giving instructions. -sts need to choose each description from exercise 1 to one of the stories in exercise 2. use ICQs -hand out sheets and the cut out descriptions. -allow sts plenty of time to read the stories -Once sts are finished. ask a sts to give the correct answer if not correct, ask WC for the correct definition.
-T has sts to face each other in circle -T tells sts which story liked best and why. I choose sts to say which story she liked best and why. -have sts to select another sts to give thier opinion.
