Description

In this lesson, students have covered writing opinion paragraph on a certain topic. They will write a one-sided opinion paragraph.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a one-sided opinion essay in the context of the effects of technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • Brainstorm and organize relevant arguments about technology's impact
  • Use appropriate linking words to develop a coherent argument
  • To engage in constructive peer feedback

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks 3 questions on Quizziz to set the scene for the topic.

Pre-writing (2-3 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language and structure for coming productive tasks

Teacher goes over the frame of the writing task. T can ask sts CCQ to elicit it from the students.

Productive Task(s) (20-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills and write a paragraph on the given topic

Teacher presents the topic and share the google doc link with them. Students are supposed to write a paragraph about the content based on the ideas brainstormed as a group. While students are writing, teacher checks what students are writing and give ongoing feedback.

Post-writing (3-5 minutes) • To provide students an opportunity for reflecting their ideas on their friends writings

After writing their paragraphs, students check each other's writings. Classdojo organizes who will check whose paper. The students are provided with a checklist and in the end they give the papers back to their friends. They check it only for the organization not for the grammar.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher gives general feedback to the whole class about the writing and highlight the important points.
