To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of attitudes to family

To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about across cultures in the context of attitudes to family

To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary related to upbringing in the context of attitudes to family
Procedure (36-45 minutes)
T will ask Ss to guess the words "attitudes to family" by playing a shark game.
T will display the pics of the people from the listening on the wall, set the context and direct Ss' attention to the questions in Ex.1 then play the recording. Feedback: Ss will check in pairs, and whole class elicit (with justifications).
T will focus the Ss on the first two questions, then play the first monologue of the recording again. Feedback: Ss check in pairs and then w/c. T will follow the same procedure for the other two monologues.
T will get Ss to match the words like "force, expect" etc. with their definitions. Feedback: display answers on the wb. T will give the script so that Ss can read the words in context. Ask CCQs. To bring up children- Do you look after them? (Yes). Do you teach them how to behave in a particular way? (Yes) etc.
T will draw Ss attention to the pattern be + adjective + to / be + past participle + to infinitive and pronunciation in these expressions. A couple of examples T will do together with Ss as demo, the rest Ss will do in pairs. w/c FB
T will give the questions from Ex.3c and time to read and think about their ideas. Ss will discuss the questions in pairs. T will monitor to see how they cope with the new language.
T will have Ss focus on the questions from Ex. 4a and give them time to think about their answers. Then Ss will discuss the questions in pairs. Feedback: Ss tell their peers' answers.
