Description

In this lesson students will learn about 2nd conditionals. Students will be explained the meaning, form and the pronunciation of 2nd conditionals. By connecting the lesson with the previous listening lesson, students will work on examples, talk to each other using 2nd conditionals and complete fill in the blanks tasks.

Main Aims

  • To teach students the meaning, form and the pronunciation of 2nd conditionals

Subsidiary Aims

  • To teach students the unfamiliar vocabulary in the exercises

Procedure

Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To generate interest on the subject, activate schemata and talk about the meaning of 2nd conditional

- Hang the print-outs on the board (A bee, a guitar and little red riding hood) - Ask sts if I am any of these - Write the 9 statements on the board and get sts to match - Strengthen the understanding of meaning by the CCQ's and pass smoothly to form

Present (5-7 minutes) • To present the students with the form and pronunciation of 2nd condinitonals

- T elicits the form from the sts - T shows the correct pronunciation and sts to repeat afterwards - T gets 9 different Sts to repeat each of the 9 statements on the board

Practice Part 1 (10-12 minutes) • To engage sts with the new form and enable them to use the TL

- T first helps with any vocabulary that sts are unfamiliar with - T gives of the question print-outs and asks sts: Ask the questions on the hand-outs to your partner, you have 3 minutes - T asks 5 sts their answers, St - WC feedback - Sts work with their partners on ex.3 - T asks 4 different sts to give their answers, St - WC feedback

Practice 2 (7-9 minutes) • To engage sts further with the 2nd conditional

- T tells sts: Work on ex. 4 with your partner. You will change the verb in brackets to its correct form and discuss the question with your partner - T gives a key to the sts for feedback

Produce (7-10 minutes) • To give sts a freer practice, so that they can produce what they learned themselves

- T tells sts: write down 3 if-conditional questions to ask your friends, ask your questions and then answer each other - For feedback, T asks pairs to ask each other's questions and answer
