Procedure (34-46 minutes)
T starts lesson by showing Ss a picture and asks Ss 'What does this photo remind you?'. T tries to elicit Ss' answers to make them say the picture belongs to a person who regrets. Then T ives examples of her regrets and wrong decisions she made in the past. Then T expresses some situations which she wants to change now. Then T wants Ss to talk about their own regrets.
Ss are now supposed to write their regrets about past and what they would do if the situations were different now. Ss are given HOs. In these HOs, if clause sentences are cut in half and Ss are supposed to complete the rest of the sentences. The sentences are in the form of second and third conditionals. While Ss are doing the task, T writes sentence halves on WB and monitors Ss closely. T tires to get feedback from Ss to complete the sentences. Until Ss finish, T will have written the rest of the sentences by monitoring them on task.
After Ss finish writing, T asks some Ss about their sentences. Some of the Ss read and T wants Ss look at the sentences on WB. T asks some CCQs about the sentences to clarify the meaning. CCQs will clarify which sentences are related to the past or present. Also, by using CCQs, T will clarify that these sentences are unreal or imaginary situations. Then, T will clarify the form by marking past simple and past perfect sentences for if clause parts. For the main clause, T marks modal forms and asks CCQs about form. Lastly, T focuses on pronunciation and drills the contracted forms of modals and auxiliaries.
Ss are now supposed to look at their sentences again and rewrite them according to the correct forms. Ss give feedback each other's sentences in pairs and try to help each other rewrite the sentences. T monitors them and, if neded, clarifies the form and meaning again.
Ss are given HOs. They are supposed to write sentences in the given task in second or third conditional form. They work in pairs. After they finish, they check the answers from the key. If Ss need, T clarifies form and meaning on WB.
Ss are given a timeline which they are supposed to fill some life events of their own from past to present. Ss are given one or two minutes to complete this timeline. Then in groups of three, Ss come together and discuss these events. They can ask each other some questions, for example: 'what would you have done if you hadn't got married?' according to the events in the timeline. All Ss ask and answer questions each other. T monitors closely and corrects errors on WB if there is any.
Ss will be given some cards on which the regrets and wishes of people are written. Ss will ask and answer about these people's life events and give some advice related to them in pairs.
