Main Aims

To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about leadership styles in the context of key leadership styles and character traits in a text.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification of arrogant, determined, responsible, challenge, employee, treat, boss in in the context of personality traits and leadership styles.
Procedure (23-33 minutes)
Discuss these questions in pairs or small groups: What qualities make someone a good leader? Can you name any famous leaders? What are they known for?
Show the title and headings of the text. Ask students to predict: What is the text about? What leadership styles might be mentioned?
Match the word to its meaning using definitions and pictures from the material. Example words: Responsible Determined Arrogant Respect Use each word in a sentence as a class.
Read the text "Leadership Styles" quickly. Focus on the headings, the first paragraph, and the first lines of additional paragraphs. Then choose the best answer for what the text is mainly about. Options: The world’s top leaders Styles of leaders The best way to lead others How leadership styles change over time Ss check in pairs then T-Ss feedback
Read the text carefully and decide which type of leader would say each of the following statements. Choose the correct option (a, b, or c). Example Questions: "I’m sure my team will get together and make the right decision." a. Servant b. Autocratic c. Transformational "It’s faster if I just make all the decisions. In small groups, discuss the following: In which situations would it be good to have the following types of leaders? (Delegative, Autocratic, Participative) Example: "I think a Delegative style is probably best when people are highly skilled and need minimal supervision." What style of leader would you like or dislike to work with? Why? Example: "I wouldn’t like to work with an Autocratic leader because they might not value my input."
