Description

In this lesson, the student will be able to discuss what profession they are in, and also how to understand a native speaker when discussing their profession as well. By the end of the lesson, a student will learn jobs in English by vocab, and understand what role they play.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show lead-in image of a doctor, and ask, "What do you think he does?" Answers could be: medicine, patients, doctor, medical, etc.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

introduce pictures with different jobs and allow the student to drop the name of the picture into its correct place.

Task (7-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Allow student to listen to recorded audio to find the stress on words, while also locating the difference between "a" and "an" in words where consonants and vowels are present as the subject or object. using audio CD1: 19 to help in stress.

Introducing Negatives (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to find the negatives in speech.

Students will find the contrast of proclaiming a profession by stating "isn't" or "He/She's not" etc.

Language Analysis (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Allow student to go through fill in the blank with audio listening for a practice stage in understanding the language. Student will match the blank with the appropriate words so that they feel comfortable in listening and understanding/giving feedback.

Language Practice (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Students will finish the fill in the blanks, and then through conversation with the tutor, we will discuss what she does using proper usage of nouns and professions.
