To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about reading skills by identifying the gist and specific details in the context of communication preferences
Procedure (29-48 minutes)
- Show a slide or ask: “How do you usually communicate with friends?” - Display a few sample communication methods (e.g., texting, social media). - Ask learners to discuss: “Which method do you use most frequently?”
- Teach target words (e.g, particularly, normally). - Use visuals, examples, and CCQs to clarify meaning.
Distribute the text and ask: “What is the main idea of this article?” - Pair students to discuss their answers briefly before class feedback.
- Highlight sentences from the text using Present Simple and Continuous. - Elicit timeline placement and differences between the two tenses. - Drill adverbs of frequency (e.g., always, usually, never).
- Provide a gap-fill handout with sentences using Present Simple, Present Continuous, and adverbs of frequency. - Students complete individually, check in pairs, and review answers as a class.

Prepare three sets of colored cards, three colors, each color associates with one type of question. Write names of different places (e.g., park, library, beach) . Write names of people (e.g., friend, sibling, colleague). Write various activities (e.g., reading, jogging, swimming). Procedure: Distribute the cards to students. One student pretends to call another on the phone and asks: “Where are you?” “Who are you with?” “What are you doing?” Follow up with: “Why are you there/doing this?” Students take turns asking and answering the questions, ensuring they use Present Simple and Present Continuous correctly. T monitors the activity to ensure accurate use of grammar and provides feedback as needed.
