Procedure (33-46 minutes)
T gives Ss small papers with words 'waiter', 'bill', 'reservation', 'order' Ss have to mingle and explain the word they have in order to find their team mates (groups of 3)
T puts 4 pictures on the WB. T asks students to work in groups of three and describe similarities and differences between them. Useful language: fast food, self-service buffet, tray, flight attendant (stewardess) Useful phrases: It looks like a... ; In this picture they're... This one looks most comfortable/interesting/expensive After the students have discussed the pictures there is a WC feedback (Do you go to similar places? Which photo do you like the best?) After the students share the ideas, T elicits the 'eating out' phrase.
Ss listen to three conversations; match each one to a photo. There's one photo that Ss will not need. L. 1.23-1.25 Work individually, then check in groups, then WC feedback
Ss listen to the conversations once again, then answer the questions to each of the them. C1: Who is this reservation for? Who is ready to order? Man or woman? C2: What is the problem with the food? What size drink does the man have? C3: Does the woman have anything else to drink? Where does she have to pay?
T gives HO with sentences; the words are in the wrong order. Ss must put the words in correct order. After that they check their answers within their group, then check with the WC. T has written correct sentences on the other side of the WB beforehand. T turns the WB. Draws attention to the intonation. Drill intonation! Ss after that choose sentences that belong to customer. WC checking.
Ss work in groups of three. A and B are customers, C is a waiter. T gives Ss menus. Ss have to role-play a conversation in a restaurant. If time allows, SS repeat the task, with another partner. Error correction in the end.
