Main Aims

To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of lies and honesty

Subsidiary Aims

To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Lies in the context of friends, family and colleagues relationship

Procedure (45-55 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks some personal questions to students Raise your hand if you are honest How often do you lie? Do you think it is necessary to lie sometimes? In which cases?

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher gives students a worksheet in which they learn new vocabulary by matching concepts with their meaning

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

After reading, the teacher gives students a worksheet in which they have to choose the main idea of the text

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Teacher gives students a worksheet in which they have to answer some true/false questions, they can read again if it´s necessary

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher makes groups of 2 people and then gives instructions for the production activity Talk to your partner about the biggest lie you have ever told When was it? Who did you lie to? Were there consequences? Do you regret or would you do that again?
