In this lesson. Ss are going to learn the question forms of the past simple tense using did with WH questions and yes and no questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of past simple questions using did in the context of holiday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about a picture in the context of holiday
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks the Ss what are the good places in Turkey to go on a holiday. Then, T takes FB from the Ss

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text with listening

T shows the Ss two pictures of his holiday and then sets the Ss to listen for gist and discover where this photos were taken. Then T takes FB from the Ss

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T writes on the WB four fill in the gap sentences and tries to elicit from the Ss the missing TL words. Then, T takes whole class FB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T uses the four written sentences on the WB to elicit from the Ss the TL. Then T clarifies the MFP of the TL

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives the Ss random sentences and asks them to match them with one another. Then T takes FB and sets the Ss for reinforcement drilling.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks the Ss to write questions for the answers using did. Then T takes FB from the Ss and corrects the mistakes if there is any

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free speaking practice of the target language

T asks the Ss to use the questions from the previous ex to ask each other questions using did and to give their own answers about a holiday they had. Then T does delayed error correction and tries to elicit the correction from the Ss
